Bedford Labs
Core & Shell Base Building Custom HVAC Equipment
Bedford Labs presented a unique opportunity to furnish a base building core/shell lab renovation project with a (5) of our premier custom and tailored products. The product mix is a showcase of how our products can fully support a challenging base building requirements for energy recovery, ventilation, laboratory exhaust, cooling, and heating! The result is 230,000 CFM of custom 100% OA AHUs (Cambridgeport Custom) , 230,000 CFM of exhaust (Cambridgeport Custom) with High Plume Lab Exhaust Fans (MKPlastics), high performance Pumped Glycol Energy Recovery (Konvekta), (2) 850 tonR Magnetic Bearing Chillers (Smardt) and a custom modular penthouse fabricated by Modular Mechanical Systems (MMS) a L/U 537 and ISO certified prefab manufacturer. The existing building did not have the necessary mechanical space available to install the (3) new gas boilers, hydronic pumps and Konvekta energy recovery system so with the help of Cambridgeport Custom providing a modular enclosure, MMS fabricated an entire mechanical room at their local facility in Andover MA. The penthouse shipped in 4 sections and were landed on dunnage on the buildings roof. All piping within the penthouse was fully piped in the factory to ensure coordination and separated at flanges along the modular splits. Once landed, the mechanical contractor connected the flanges and piped the Konvekta pumped glycol energy recovery system from (4) flanges at the pipe chase to the (4) AHUs and (4) EAHUs plenums that housed the Konvekta high efficiency coils spread across the building roof.
